Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies

4 sticks butter (1 lb.)
2 cups sugar
2 cups brown sugar
4 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
5 cups ground oatmeal (18 oz pkg. regular oatmeal, ground in food processor)
4 cups flour
2 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
2 bags chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Cream the butter, sugar, and brown sugar. Add eggs and vanilla.

Combine the oatmeal, flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add the wet ingredients and mix with a spoon (or your hands!).

Add chocolate chips. (Now you really do have to mix it with your hands.)

Roll dough into golf-ball-sized balls and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 15 minutes at 350 degrees.

Let cool on baking sheet for 10 minutes, then remove to wire rack to cool completely (unless you've eaten them all while they're warm!).

Store in sealed container or ziplock bag. These cookies freeze very nicely.

Makes 3-4 dozen.
